A Birthday Banner

I just helped my mom celebrate her 50th birthday! This was a major birthday, and my family and I decided to order a special cake for the occasion. It was a pretty simple cake so I decided it needed a beautiful banner to top it off!

The cake only needed to feed 8–12 people. So I ordered a small and simple cake. The top tier was 5" across and the bottom was 8". So when I was sketching and planning, I realized I needed to make sure the topper was not going to be too big for the cake. I chose to have the topper just say “Birthday” to make sure it would fit.

I used the Hearts a Flutter Stamp Set and coordinating Framelits dies, the Petite Pennants Punch, and the Broadsheet Alphabet Stamp Set to create a cake topper fit for a 50th birthday cake! I used SNAIL initially, but it didn’t hold as well as I would’ve liked, and I ended up going back with Stick Strip. I stuck to Basic Black, Basic Gray, and Silver Glimmer Paper to show the “over the hill” aspect of the birthday.

But more than anything, I wanted a cake a topper that I knew my mom would love. And she did! Mission accomplished.
